How can anything less than 10 dimesions exist?

How can a 2 dimensional object exist in a 3 dimensional space?
Everything in our 3 dimensional world requires depth, right? How can something be infinitely thin? Or is everything really 10 dimensional and depending on your observational ability is what you experience? (for us 3d)
